Who it’s for:

Great for city breaks and anyone wanting to be right in the heart of Galway. Ideal if shopping, restaurants, and easy access to everything are your priority. What’s great:

The central location is a major plus—perfect for exploring Galway on foot. The food was very enjoyable, and the bedroom had a lovely view, which added to the overall experience. Want to know:

During our stay, the hotel felt quite cold due to the harsh winter weather and snow, which impacted comfort. It’s likely a much better experience in warmer months, so timing your visit could make a big difference.

Who it’s for:

Ideal for families, all-inclusive holidaymakers, and anyone wanting a relaxed beach break close to the airport with everything on-site. What’s great:

The location is excellent—right by the beach and only a few minutes from the airport, which makes arrival and departure really easy. There’s a small commercial centre next door for extra convenience, but the hotel itself has plenty to offer. Rooms are spacious, the food is fresh and enjoyable, and the daily breakfast cava is a nice touch. Evening entertainment adds to the holiday atmosphere, and overall it’s a very family-friendly resort. Want to know:

Being so close to the airport is convenient, but you will notice some aircraft noise at times. It’s a large, lively resort-style hotel, so it’s better suited to a holiday vibe rather than a quiet, intimate escape.

MSC-World-Europa.avif

Stayed: June 2024

Cruise: MSC Mediterranean MSC World Europa
Overall: ★★☆☆☆ – A mixed first‑time cruise with good value in the premium drinks package but disappointing excursions and crowded sea days

Who it’s for: Groups or families who want a busy, social ship with lots going on and don’t mind crowds. Less ideal for solo travellers or couples seeking a calm, romantic escape.

Whats Great: We upgraded to the premium drinks package and would recommend it for ease and value. As first‑time cruisers, we booked the full bundle with flights and transfers, but in hindsight this wasn’t really necessary. What to Know: We tried a couple of ship‑run excursions to see places we wouldn’t normally visit, but they were very expensive and mostly involved long coach rides and only seeing famous sights, like Rome, from the outside. Also: Sea days were hard to enjoy, with sunbeds quickly taken and the deck feeling packed. The experience has put us off cruising for now, though we might consider trying again in the future somewhere like the Caribbean. We’re glad we did it, especially after hearing mixed reviews from friends, but overall this style of cruise feels better suited to groups than to solo travellers or couples wanting something more relaxed and romantic.

What to know: Expect significant maintenance issues, including visible mould and zero housekeeping during a week-long visit.
